Facilities
The centre is located about 25km west of Arusha in northern Tanzania. It is on a regular local bus route which brings many of our students and it is close to Meserani Snake Park, a campsite which houses many of our volunteers.
We are proud of the facilities at the centre. There are 3 main rooms - a classroom (designed for 30, but which can fit upwards of 50), a computer room (currently home to 12 computers, but with plans to expand to 16 computers), and a reference library (home to about 2000 books). All these rooms are open for the public to use from 8am through to 7pm (and sometimes 8pm) 6 days a week and for half a day on Sunday.
In addition there are 2 toilet blocks and a shower for use by both the centre and the neighbouring clinic. When the power cuts happen, we have a generator to keep the computers powered up and we also have an outdoor teaching area with benches and two huts.
However, ask any child who uses the centre what is the best feature and they will tell you it's the playground - complete with climbing frame, swings, see-saw and roundabout! There's also a volleyball court for student use.
