Our Members

We currently have over 750 members. But that's not to say we get 750 people coming to classes every week! Some of our members choose to use the centre for informal use and some find they have to drop out of classes because they cannot afford the 50p return fare on the bus. For an average set of courses we will get between 200 and 300 adults and around 100 children attending classes. This number does vary depending on the time of year - for example in the long rains our members need to spend time working their land and consequently attendance dropped temporarily.

We welcome members from a diverse array of backgrounds. Although over 50% of our members are Maasai, over 40 different tribes are represented at the centre. There is a very even male-female split, and the main age group of students is between 20 and 30. We have over 200 children that use the centre at different points, and they do so with an involved joy. Although half our members hail from within 3km of the centre, some travel distances of up to 100km to get there.

Anyone can become a member of the centre at any time and the diversity of our membership is one of the things which makes the centre so exciting.
