Volunteers play a crucial role in the success of the centre. All the fundraising is done by volunteers and they also source various resources for the centre and look at different course designs. Out in Tanzania, volunteers at the centre are a valuable addition. They add another dimension to English classes, help out with computers, run extra courses in their specialist subjects, or put on additional activities such as drama or sport.
Every summer we take out a group from the University of Nottingham who have volunteered with TanDEM throughout the year to raise the funds to keep the centre running. During these summer months we are unable to accommodate more volunteers at the centre. At all other times (late September to mid-July) we welcome volunteers with open arms.
